Frequently Asked Questions - We at Bikeandski-Vercors get asked questions that our visitors often have before coming to France. To help you, we've put together the most common questions for you, and of course, don't hesitate to contact us if you have anything you want to ask.

The Questions :

1 - Can I Rent A Bike?

2 - It's summer, do I need to bring things for cold weather?

3 - I don't speak any French, will this be a problem?

4 - What if I'm worried about my fitness level?

5 - Do I have to wear a helmet?

6 - What gears shall I need?

7 - Do I need any spares?

8 - Shall I have to follow the itinerary?

9 - What food and drink will I need while out training?

10 - Do I have to race at the weekend?

11 - Do I have to have insurance?

1 - Can I Rent A Bike?

Our response - You can rent a bike, but we recommend bringing your own machine. It's a lot more fun to ride on something you trust. We can store bike boxes for your stay.

2 - It's summer, do I need to bring things for cold weather?

Our response - Autrans is situated at over 1000 metres, and it can be fresh in the morning and evening. We recommend that you bring winter clothes in case of bad weather.

3 - I don't speak any French, will this be a problem?

Our response - Not at all, as we are all fluent in English and French, and feel free to come and practice while you are here.

4 - What if I'm worried about my fitness level?

Our response - Our tours are open to all levels and if you want to climb off for a half day or ride in the van, you should feel comfortable that you can do that. Most of all, you're here to have fun.

5 - Do I have to wear a helmet?
Our response - When mountainbiking it is an obligation for everyone to wear an approved helmet and a pair of gloves.
Out on the road bikes we expect everyone in the group to wear a helmet. On extremely hot days over long climbs we relax this a little at your own discretion. If you are racing, a helmet is mandatory at all times.

6 - What gears shall I need?

Our response - The Vercors climbs offer a more progressive profile than those of the high alps but still offer a tough challenge. We recommend a minimum ratio of 39 x 25 or compact systems are increasingly popular.

7 - Do I need any spares?
Our response - A couple of spares tubes & repair kit should see you through the week. We also have a comprehensive toolkit & track pump on hand. Tyres and other parts can be purchased locally if required.

8 - Shall I have to follow the itinerary?
Our response - No, the published daily routes are a sample only. We usually discuss the options for the following days ride the night before. If you want to do a ride individually then consult us beforehand.

9 - What food and drink will I need while out training?
Our response - We advise that you consume twice as much food & drink as you normally would for a similar session. The support vehicle will carry extra supplies when we are out on longer excursions. We also know where there are safe, natural water supplies if required. It’s also good practice to carry a couple of €’s for a café stop.

10 - Do I have to race at the weekend?
Our Response - No, of course not. This is why race entry fees are not included in the price. The choice is entirely individual.

11 - Do I have to have insurance?
Our response - Yes, this is a condition of booking and should be adequate to cover participating in the sporting activities you are undertaking. For EU citizens, European Health Insurance Form E111 is recommended and available from the Post Office.
